Ann with green labels

You are working in emergency and you are asked to see a 55 year old woman (Ann) brought in by her brother. He has come into town on business and just arrived at her house to take her out for a planned dinner. He has only spoken to her on the phone over the last 18 months. She retired as a school teacher almost two years ago.

Today he was concerned because she appeared disheveled, sweaty, with shaking hands and appeared somewhat confused. She had forgotten he was coming for a visit and was reluctant to leave the house. She keeps mumbling about green labels. Triage notes list her vitals:

What do you want to do with Ann?

  • Ask her if she knows why she is in the ER
  • Start an IV & fluids
  • Ask if she had anything to drink today and if so, how much?
  • Ask her if she has had any recent illnesses or injuries
  • Give her Ativan stat because of seizure risk
