1. What is the point? What is the point of your case or story? Or, more often, what are the two or three main teaching points you are trying to get across to your learners? Don't get too complicated. Keep this core principle in mind. Most authors get far too expansive on their first case. It is much better to start simple and get used to doing this case authoring stuff. But even in the long run, don't design a case that will, for example, teach all about hypertension. Think instead of a few key points about prescribing BP pills and build that into your case. The most compelling stories come from real life examples. The war stories we tell each other, ad nauseam, at parties! One of the easier ways to get started is to one of the wizards in OLab3. For this example, we'll use the very basic Linear Wizard for Creating a Labyrinth Step by Step. Fill in the initial details describing your case. You can come back later and complete this so don't worry too much about getting all the details right to start with. |
