A 40 year old patient who has always enjoyed a glass of wine a night, but recently increased her alcohol intake during a time of stress - 3 months of drinking 2-3 glasses of wine a night, sometimes more on weekends. She realizes that this is becoming a problem for her and is motivated to quit, because her mother is an alcoholic and she doesn’t want to end up like her. She denies any past withdrawal complications, but admits that her previous attempt to cut-down haven’t worked for more than a day or two at a time. She feels a bit anxious about quitting.
