Ask him about experimenting with substance use

You tell him in your experience lots of kids in his age group are experimenting with drugs. Do any of his friends use drugs or alcohol?

He says,"Sure most have tried a few things but nothing heavy."

You ask how much experimenting he has done.

"Same as my friends, we've tried a bit of booze and marijuana but no real drugs"
